This is the story of the Artwork Denim Wounds [Green Colorway] painted using oil paints. This is how the story began.

Tuesday afternoon

Visited the local art store to ‘suss out’ some oil painting supplies. I needed to get some canvas for next week’s class. Left with $90 of oil painting supplies. The man serving me commented that I must really be into Oil Painting. I assured him that I was just ‘trying it out’. Clearly in denial.

Tuesday night

Played around with mixing some colours and testing them out. I am in instant amazement. It is so soft to work with. I’m confused as to what I hated about when I first tried it over ten years ago. I’m worried for my acrylic painting because I feel as though it may be getting replaced.

Wednesday night

Evening spent on YouTube watching oil painting videos.

Friday afternoon

A little nervous. But determined to just get over the initial hump of oil painting and just try it and see what happens.

Some time later on Friday afternoon

Denim Wounds is born.

I am pretty happy with it. Though it is a shame I didn’t begin it on a canvas instead. It’s on canvas board. But I am also a fan of having it on thin flat surface. Though I’m not sure if that is a universal preference.

Sunday afternoon
I’m thinking Denim Wounds would actually look good printed on fabric and used to create a dress with draping. I will have to investigate my options at Spoonflower this week and begin on a draped dress design.

The world: ignites in me, a sense of curiosity. My mind does not settle until it can comprehend, until it understands. For the physical world, creation has always been my enduring method of choice. For the spiritual world, all-encompassing practices like yoga and meditation, a belief in a higher energy, and writing have always been the soothing and balancing tools I have returned to, to re-ground myself. This is my journey of self-expression. Through written words and different forms of art. To my soul, my inner essence.
