In today’s session, I am going to spend some time creating repeated patterns from the elements I’ve already extracted from my moodboard.

I’ve now got several ideas down for repeating patterns. However as I am sketching them I am wondering about what tools I can use in Illustrator to achieve exactly what I want. Or observing some marks and thinking about how it will import with live trace into Illustrator. I am definitely in the surface pattern design headspace which I think is detracting from the actual purpose of this painting session.

When I’m painting, I might have to deliberately prompt myself to transfer these repeating pattern onto the canvas because my association with them is definitely from a surface design perspective.

We are now onto mark making – this is all about exploring the type of marks your painting tools can achieve.

The world: ignites in me, a sense of curiosity. My mind does not settle until it can comprehend, until it understands. For the physical world, creation has always been my enduring method of choice. For the spiritual world, all-encompassing practices like yoga and meditation, a belief in a higher energy, and writing have always been the soothing and balancing tools I have returned to, to re-ground myself. This is my journey of self-expression. Through written words and different forms of art. To my soul, my inner essence.
